A message from the Chief Executive Officer Danielle Boakye (Daughter) of the Dr. Jacob Boakye Scholarship Foundation
Thank you for your interest in applying for the Scholarship. I want to take a moment to share, who Dr. Jacob Boakye was.
He was my dad, my role model, my hero. He grew up in krofrom kumasi ghana. All his life, he had a passion for education. He studied at the university of ghana where he majored in a bachelor of science in agriculture. He then completed his masters at the university of guelph in resource economics and later pursued a Ph.D in education at the university of Illinois. As you can see, he set the bar really high for me! He truly had a unique form of excellence in academia. His successes lead him to numerous employment opportunities such as with Prudential Insurance company as a Financial Advisor, with CIBC as an Executive accountant and with Bombardier as a Senior Analyst just to name a few. He truly enjoyed working with numbers. Not only did he have a love for learning, especially in mathematics and economics, he also had a love for teaching. It's that very love for teaching that moved him to pursue his many opportunities in Ghana. He was recognized for his work as a Senior Lecturer at the university of Ghana in Legon, the Institute of business and technology, the Wilconsin university of Ghana and the Regent university of Ghana.
As much as my dad had many academic successes, he was very humble. His priority in life was to be a God fearing and caring person. My dad believed in showing kindness, not only to his family but to everyone. I remember as a child, I always saw my Dad constantly give money to homeless individuals so I asked him "Dad why are you always giving your money to them, can't they work?" His response was "Nana, God judges no one". Now to this day, I never turn a blind eye to a person in need.
As I reflect on living the several years without him, it has been the hardest reality to accept. Nevertheless, I take hope in seeing him again and I am deeply grateful for the countless lessons my father, Dr. Jacob Boakye, imparted to me. His wisdom, compassion, and dedication to education have shaped the person I am today. For that reason, it is a privilege to honor his legacy by launching the 1st ever Grant for Ghanaian and Ghanaian decendents called the Dr. Jacob Boakye Scholarship Foundation. This initiative aims to give back to our community by providing financial support to Ghanaian students in universities and colleges across Canada. Through this scholarship, my hope is to ease the burden of tuition and related costs, enabling more students to achieve their dreams of graduating from post-secondary education. It is my sincere desire that, just as my father inspired me, this foundation will inspire and uplift many more Ghanaian students in their pursuit of knowledge and success.
Thank you for applying and best of luck!
